Top 7 Brave Breeds Suggested By Experts: Which Dogs Are The Bravest?

Bravery in a human is one thing, but bravery in our canine friends is a whole other. There are fewer things more heartwarming than watching your pup come to your defense in an act of courage and love. Their selflessness and willingness to put themselves in harm’s way to protect their loved ones is a testament to the incredible bond we share with our furry companions. Of course, some dogs already have the courageous instinct built into the fabric of their breed. Some of the bravest dog breeds in the world, like German Shepherds and Rottweilers, are especially known for their courage and protective nature. These dogs are often chosen for roles in law enforcement and search and rescue missions due to their innate courage and ability to stay focused in high-pressure situations. However, it is important to note that bravery can be found in all breeds and sizes of dogs.

Of course, being a new dog owner can be an adventurous time, whether you want it to be or not! A new survey finds just what to expect when welcoming a new dog into the home. The survey reveals that within their first year at home, respondents’ dogs went through 27 toys, destroyed four pieces of furniture, and slipped out of their leash six times. However, it isn’t all rough times; from helping their owners through an average of three new jobs and three new homes, 64 percent of respondents don’t know where they’d be without their dog’s love and support. So, while bringing a puppy into the home can be daunting at first, one must remember the payoff of a best friend at the other end of those terrible twos.

The bond that comes with owning a dog is undeniably special. They’d do anything for us, and vice versa. In fact, many would rather spend money on their dog than their partner. And, most people would rather snuggle with their dog as well. I guess that’s why they call it puppy love.

“German Shepherds originated from Germany dating back to the late 1800s. These highly active dogs have a willingness to learn and serve a purpose. As a working dog breed, German Shepherds are naturally loyal and bond well with familiar faces. They have a tendency to become overprotective of their family and territory; strong guidance and training is a necessity,” states Savory Prime Pet Treats.

“We can’t talk about the bravest dog breeds without mentioning the German Shepherd. After all, it’s the first breed that comes to mind when we think about police dogs! What’s great about them: Loyal to the nth degree, confident, easy to train, and eager to please. They’re happiest when they’re working, so give them a job that lets them show off their bravery (in a safe way, of course, unless you’re training a police dog),” notes Dogvills.

They are highly intelligent and trainable, very people-oriented (so not a good breed to leave alone all day), and form very strong bonds with their family. Early socialization and training will help you deal with that tendency to chase cars, cats & kids. They are quick to learn and eager to please, so as long as you’re diligent early on, it shouldn’t be a lifelong issue,” explains Dogvills.

“Belgian Malinois are agile, intelligent, and renowned for their bravery. Often used in police and military work, these dogs fearlessly face dangerous situations without hesitation. They have a strong work ethic, unwavering focus, and an incredible drive to protect and serve. “Presa Canarios are recognized by their wide jaw and powerful, square head. Although first appearances may look daunting, they are very docile with their family. This courageous dog breed is distrustful of strangers but should accept strangers if their owner accepts them. The breed commands attention and would likely be a deterrent for any intruder. Still, their loving nature makes them a great addition to your home. Like many other strong-willed dog breeds, the Presa Canario requires a great deal of training. Early socialization is a must,” states DogTime.

“The Perro de Presa Canario has a strong and muscular build, with a height that ranges between 21 to 29 inches and weighs between 80 and 150 pounds. These tasks require a powerful, agile, courageous dog with a large head and powerful jaws. The Presa is extremely affectionate, docile, and well-behaved with its owner and family but is wary of strangers and aggressive with other dogs,” reports Dogmal.
